Agoge is a great gym for anyone interested in martial arts. I've been coming here for over a year now, and there's a great mix of experience levels to train with, from beginner to black belt. The selling point that got me was the huge variety of classes and training times to accommodate my busy schedule.

I've trained at different gyms in the area, and traveled for work for 4 years dropping into gyms here and there all over the country. I found Agoge through friends I knew who competed against Agoge members in tournaments. I was incredibly impressed by word of mouth and the technique taught at Agoge. I decided to give it a visit, and not only was the instruction incredible, but the instructors and members were truly the most welcoming and awesome group I've had the pleasure of training with. Joining Agoge has been one of the best decision I have ever made, it's not just a martial arts school, it's a community and a family of incredibly helpful people. I am beyond grateful for Agoge Combatives.

I'm far, far from a Jiu-Jitsu expert, but I have had the opportunity to train at multiple gyms in many states. What I have found out is what's much more important than having the best, most experienced instructors is the overall feel of a BJJ gym - are the people friendly? The instructors helpful and caring? The facility cared for? Wonderfully enough, Agoge/Chatt Krav has it all. Even though the instructors are extremely skilled at what they do, it feels like family - like a home. Students and instructors ask you where you were when you miss classes, we all go and spend time together outside of class, and at tournaments - everyone goes to support each other. Unfortunately, it's rare to find a place like this. When I came to Chattanooga I searched around quite a bit before I found Agoge. Fortunately, there is a place in Chattanooga that has the whole package, and this is it.

I'm writing this the day after I've come back after months of inconsistency. I'm sore all over, and I really missed that feeling and my training partners. This is going to come out as a love letter to the bjj community because I really do owe them a lot, and I can't express my gratitude enough. When I say Agoge Combatives and BJJ were a game changer for me, I mean that quite literally. I showed up in 2020 at one of the low points in my life when I decided to give jiu-jitsu a try at the recommendation of a friend. My life hasn't been the same since that 5:30am BJJ class, it flipped the script. I never knew I could feel as confident as I have in this martial art, and that's not because I'm great at it but because I realized that I'm free to be a lifelong student and struggle, that's part of the process. I also have some of the best relationships as a result of being in this community. You'll meet some of the most interesting, gracious, and lovable people on the mats because, as my friend Donavon always says, "You can't hide from yourself out there, and therefore you can't hide yourself from others, they see you like very few people ever will". The friends I've made on the mats and the ones I'm blessed to do life with are the ones who've seen me at my worst and most vulnerable, and they're still there for me. We've also shared a lot of side-spliting laughter, which you feel deeper when you're sore from training, I highly recommend post-training sushi with your group of friends! I could go on, but I'll make this short. I can never thank God enough for Jiu-jitsu and everything I've been given as a result of training with the folks at Agoge. So come check it out for yourself. If you stick around, I guarantee you'll have a similar story, don't rob yourself of great things, and a wonderful community. P.S. Early Bird class is the best!

After having trained at another gym and having a poor experience, my wife and I were invited to try Jiu Jitsu at Agoge Combatives by my friend Grayson Dunn. After only one class, we knew this was the place for us. All of the coaches and other students made us feel like part of the family and have treated us as such ever since. The quality of instruction is par none in the area, probably in the nation. The facility is top notch. The students are awesome and we’ve truly become close with many of them. We feel lucky to have found a place like Agoge to get better every day.
