Akagi Jiu Jitsu is an absolute game-changer! My son has not only leveled up faster than we ever imagined, but he’s also having the time of his life doing it. The coaching here is next-level — seriously. Every class is packed with skill, discipline, and just the right amount of fun to keep kids locked in and loving it. But what truly sets Akagi apart is the community. It’s not just a gym — it’s a second family. The support, the positivity, and the friendships we’ve found here are like nothing else. Our whole family feels welcome and connected, and watching our son thrive in such an empowering environment has been incredible.

Akagi Jiu Jitsu has been such an incredible place for our family. My son, Mason DuBois, has been training here for about four years, starting when he was very young. Now at 12 years old, he’s competing locally and internationally — and it’s all thanks to the amazing coaching and mentorship he’s received from Topher and Karyn. Topher has personally trained Mason 1:1 for years, helping him grow not just as an athlete but as a person. His dedication, patience, and belief in Mason have played a huge role in shaping who he is today. Karyn has also been such an incredible support system, always there to help in every way. They truly care about the kids they coach, and it shows in everything they do. Beyond the training, Akagi has given us a second family. We’ve built friendships with other families here that we will cherish forever. The environment is welcoming, positive, and focused on building character just as much as skill. We are so grateful for everything Topher, Karyn, and the entire Akagi family have done for Mason. If you’re looking for a place where your child can truly grow and be supported every step of the way, Akagi Jiu Jitsu is the place to be.

Akagi has been great for my 2 son's age 11 and 9. Topher and the other coaches here are great! The methods used have improved them greatly. I would highly recommend going here if new or looking to take your Jiu-Jitsu to the next level.

I drop into Akagi’s regular Sunday open mats as often as possible. My training week just isn’t complete without it. I’ve gotten to know many of the members of Akagi and they’ve all been great to train with, technical, a good training partner, and people it’s just fun to be around. I absolutely recommend them as a home gym or a great cross training location without reservation.

-LOWMID Akagi has Fundamentals is structured is weirdly. At most gyms like M-theory, Bellum, alliance etc the instructor will explain what positions are more thoroughly. The instructors make sure you know what you are doing. Akagi instead doesn’t do this. They will teach heel hook submissions instead of what saddle is first in fundamentals classes. Then they will do a very complex sequence of techniques from that position you won’t understand. Beginners are looked at liabilities with very little profit potential. As a beginner you are told not to pull very hard or suddenly into heel hooks and tap loudly. Shockingly when I rolled with a blue belt he tried cranking an ankle incredibly fast and cranky. They don’t want you to injure their competitors but are totally fine with you getting hurt as long as you sign the waiver. Overall summary of this place is not very safe beginner friendly, or professional. Also I don’t want any handouts I will keep training my whole life at better gyms than this. If as a business owner you can’t handle criticism don’t run a business.
