“Team Butler Bonney Lake Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the finest academy we have ever been to! We drove 3 hours to train here for a week and our visit exceeded every expectation. My boys started training Jiu Jitsu at their local gym in 2021. They quickly got into competing and wanted to train competitively. We started cross training and have now visited and regularly attended over 20 academies across the USA. It can often be uncomfortable visiting new places where kids are in cliques and parents are just as reserved. Our experience at Bonney Lake Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was the complete opposite. Everyone was friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in. From the owner and coach to all the kids and parents, I could not believe how kind and helpful everyone was. My kids made friends right away with other kids telling them good job after drilling and giving them warm smiles. The environment that has been cultivated here is exceptional. The level of teaching is also unparalleled. Again, we have a wide base of academies to compare to and we have never seen all of the components Butler provides - skilled teaching from an active high level competitor, careful partner choices to make sure kids get turns at being the hammer and the nail (so key to make sure a kid doesn’t get discouraged or overinflated), careful explanation of the why behind the what throughout the class, gems of wisdom about mental fortitude and mindset…and more! What also impressed me is that every kid gets hands on attention for each drill they are working on. We’ve been to many classes at other academies where many children get overlooked. The coaches at Butler systematically look at each pair of kids to watch each child perform the move and give them feedback to correct the move. Then they watch them again to make sure the child is drilling it correctly before moving on to the next set of kids. One thing that has always driven my kids crazy is how dumbed down most kids classes are. Kids are so much smarter than we give them credit for. Butler understands this and teaches the kids sequences they can actually use. This is broken down into steps with each step carefully explained with what can happen if you don’t do it correctly. Kids are given a chance to demonstrate and then the class is able to look at what went right and wrong to make sure everyone understands. We also took advantage of the great prices on private lessons while we were there. These were extremely high value to my kids and they not only learned a lot but felt they fixed some big wholes in their game. This academy is the best in the Pacific NW!! I highly recommend going!”
