“I am so happy with Bushido-Kai Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for my 11-year-old son! After trialing countless sports and not finding something he really enjoyed, we have finally found my son's sport with Jiu Jitsu. My son is now in his second season with Professor Eugene. He is loving it and truly looks forward to every class! Professor Eugene is the perfect combination of skill, authority, and has the teaching skills needed to break it down to the students. I couldn't be happier with the experience for my son, and it's so much fun watching him on the mat during class! I highly recommend Bushido-Kai Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for any child or adult, especially if your child hasn't found his/her sport yet!”

“My son has completed almost a year at Bushido Kai. Professor Eugene Char is wonderful! His instruction ensures that students understand and learn the techniques, build confidence and discipline. I highly recommend.”

“This review is long overdue, but I wanted to share my amazing experience at Bushido Kai BJJ in Irvine. Back in the summer of 2022, I attended a session with a friend who was brand new to jiu-jitsu. As a blue belt, I found the class to be very welcoming and not intimidating at all, which isn’t always the case when trying out a new gym. Coach Eugene Char was fantastic—friendly, supportive, and welcoming to all skill levels. His coaching style was clear and easy to follow, making the techniques approachable for beginners while still providing value to more experienced students. One highlight of the experience was that Coach Eugene rolled (sparred) with us during every class. This was fantastic, not only for gaining practical experience but also as a humbling reminder of how far I still have to go in my jiu-jitsu journey. What really stood out was how Coach Eugene went above and beyond. He even reached out to us the following year, remembering us and encouraging us to come back and train. That level of care and personal connection is rare and deeply appreciated. I highly recommend Bushido Kai BJJ to anyone, whether you’re brand new to jiu-jitsu or looking for a welcoming gym to continue your training. It’s a great place to grow both your skills and your passion for the art!”

“We love having our 10 year old in the jiu Jitsu classes at Bushido-Kai. It’s a good balance of athletics and discipline for children, with real life skills to be used in self defense situations. Highly recommended!”

“I can't say enough about our experience with Professor Eugene and the Bushido Kai BJJ program. I've trained, taught and coached martial arts for over 30 years. There are so many aspects to martial arts that reinforce positive values for children that will be invaluable as they grow into adults - discipline, focus, confidence and grit. Additionally, the physical benefits such as learning to defend oneself and get in better physical shape are the foundational benefits of training in martial arts. Next, why should you enroll at Bushido Kai BJJ? 1. Competence - prof Eugene is a 2nd degree in BJj from Carlos Gracie Jr. He is a former Judoka and he also has coached other athletes in various age groups in other sports including water polo and BJJ at the most elite national and international levels. He is also a teacher and has taught many ages for a long time. He and his team have an incredible amount of patience(something I lack) 2. Convenience - a community based program in Woodbridge/Irvine with ample parking and priced incredibly low. 3. Community - this program has a family feel to it. Oftentimes, you can walk into a dojo and academy and get the vibe that your kid(s) are plugged into this process that is all about maximizing profit for the institution. That is not the vibe here. Kids and adults are there to learn/grow in martial arts and pay in my opinion a nominal fee. We've paid a lot more at other academies. Finally, flexibility - I love that you aren't locked into a year long contract. You and your child can learn BjJ for a winter/spring/fall session then assess whether you want to continue or need to take time off for other sports then come back. Go check em out - you'll be greeted with a handshake then maybe a headlock”
