“Started at Carlson Gracie Anaheim last year, it’s been great. When I was originally looking to try jiu jitsu, I wanted somewhere that I could learn without getting hurt but still have a place that trains hard. I first tried out 10th Planet, great gym and all but very daunting for a beginner with no experience. Got my neck cranked pretty good by some of the guys there and although it’s a good gym, in my opinion not a place for a beginner without any experience. I then tried out gracie barra, and It felt more of a workout rather than a place to train. Everything is very standardized on the belt system and the class routine, more of a place younger kids or older adults to get a good workout in rather than a place to get good in jiu jitsu. When I started here at Carlson Gracie Anaheim, they did a fantastic job of setting proper expectations to all my training partners as well teaching me the basics and spending extra time to make sure I don’t get hurt or hurt any of my training partners. Coach Nick is fantastic, big guy with a good sense of humor and makes training enjoyable but has the knowledge and experience to just tell you what to do but shows you how to do it as well. He made sure I was rolling with higher belts at the beginning so they could help me out and teach me what to do while in those pressure situations. The communal aspect in the gym is great, everyone is welcoming and has good values where they have respect for all their training partners. I would recommend this gym to anyone, in all skills level, at any age. They will take care of you, teach you the foundations, and give you the help you need to achieve whatever your goals may be, whether that’s a good workout or to become a high level jiu jitsu athlete. Definitely the best experience I’ve had and the people here are fantastic.”

“I started at this gym over a year ago with no experience, and from the beginning, Professor Nick has been helpful and patient with me. I'm glad that I found this place and cannot recommend it enough to both experienced and new grapplers. Kickboxing classes are also offered. Come check it out.”

“My family and I came from Canada and visited this gym with a welcoming environment, skilled professor, and helpful team mates. My son was taught new skills and had a partner that challenged his level of training. I was fairly new in my jiujitsu journey but was provided lots of instruction and aid throughout the class. Overall a great experience and would definitely return”

“I’ve been training at Carlson Gracie Anaheim for about a year now, starting from no experience with grappling or Jiu-Jitsu. I’ve learned a ton in that time, and improved alot. Professor Nick knows what he’s doing, and the gym is full of great people who are looking to learn safely. If you’re looking to start or have experience and want to continue learning, this is the place to go.”

“I came into Carlson Gracie wanting to learn how to better protect myself after having to confront someone breaking into my car. Professor Nick heard my story and immediately started helping me feel more confident if a situation like that ever happened again. He taught me some very specific but simple techniques and looking back those things would have come in handy if the situation I was in got worse. Everyone’s very welcoming and the higher level students were more than willing to help me improve! Thank you to everyone at the gym for helping grow my confidence and making me feel like a part of the family!!!”
