I did a few drop in sessions here during Professor Jorge's 6am class. The people were friendly, Jorge gave insightful and effective instruction, and his students were incredibly skilled but treated each other with genuine care and kindness. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned veteran, a local looking for a place to call home or a visitor passing through, this gym has a place for you. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and check out Chula Vista Jiu Jitsu club. 10/10 I will train here next time I'm in town and will be sure to bring bagels for the crew! Thank you again to Professor Jorge and the morning squad for your kindness and hospitality!

I attended the Adult Gi class and was thoroughly impressed by how raw and real it felt. This is what I imagine old school jiu-jitsu gyms to look like. As soon as the kids class ended, it was the gi'd up adults running and doing warm-ups in a circle, not wasting a second to utilize the small mat space. Next we were all in line doing such warm-ups as shrimping or somersaulting across the mat. This is the first time I was able to do a somersault as an adult. The whole class seemed very disciplined, efficient, and moving as a very unified pack of wolves. It felt as if certain formations were instinct to most of these participants. In jiu-jitsu gyms, you almost always seem to notice who is the most skilled but this gym seemed to have a traditional element that made all skill levels and participants unify as one solid force. Even though I am fairly new to jiu-jitsu, everyone was kind, respectful, and able to explain complex body kinetics in a language I understood. I felt welcomed and grew as a practitioner being in the same space of so many highly disciplined martial artists.

I was able to drop in while visiting family in Chula Vista. I have been practicing jiu jitsu on and off for about 3 years and I'm in my late 40s. I was impressed with the class structure and the participants. Professor Jorge was very detailed on the instruction and was helping students with the techniques. The class is efficient in terms of time management and I haven't seen this type of structure in awhile. If I was residing in CV, I would immediately join this gym. I was also able to attend the no-gi class and the instruction was just as impressive.

Our 21 yr old son used to compete competitively as a kid (8-12 yrs) at a Chula Vista Jiu Jitsu affiliated Academy in Eastlake (Alliance Jiu Jitsu) under Prof. Elias Gallegos. Middle & High School came around and our ‘lil warrior found more interest in other team sports at that time and took more than a decade off from Jiu Jitsu. Since graduating from college & working full-time, he returned to the mats and began training again 3X/week at CVJJ as it’s less than a mile from our house. The co-owners, Prof’s. Ron Pizarro & Jorge Farfan have welcomed our son back with open arms since he returned from his 10-yr layoff from the mats. Our son has enjoyed his return to the martial arts he loved as a kid and has befriended many fellow BJJ students at his 6:00am classes. I can say without any reservation that this academy definitely feels like family. You should see the adult Gi classes in the evenings, they’re packed solid! No matter your age, or experience level; train competitively, just for self-defense, or to keep in shape, come and give CVJJ a try! After you train, there’s a plethora of craft beer breweries in downtown Chula Vista you can sip a cold one after an exhausting training class. This academy is well kept, clean, friendly, and very well run! You definitely won’t be disappointed…

Dropped in on a trip to visit family and was impressed by how kind and helpful the instructors were. I initially called to verify their holiday schedule but no one picked up but was pleasantly surprised that they actually called me back to follow up on my call. During the actual class the instructor made sure I was engaged and included and the actual instruction was great, finishing up with a few hard rolls. Really appreciate the effort everyone put into making me feel welcome!
