Explore Jiu Jitsu Techniques“My Son and I have been training here for almost a year now, it has been a really amazing experience for both of us. Both of us are in better shape than ever, are more confident than ever, and have a great way to have fun while bonding. There's a strong family vibe here, and a very welcoming environment - everybody has a place here, no outcasts and no "in crowd". In the kid's classes (6-9yrs and 10-16yrs), they teach the value of discipline, respect and hard work while having a really, really fun time. They always have a black belt professor and multiple blue belt coaches. Coach Tyler is the star of the show in the kids program, he has a style of teaching that is encouraging, enthusiastic, passionate, articulate, FUN, and the kids all absolutely love him. From day one I don't think I've seen him ask someone their name a second time, they're immediately part of the team, on equal ground with everybody else. All the while, these kids are getting better every day with a strong presence in the competitive/tournament side of the sport and slacking off is never accepted. As for the adult classes, we have a close community of good men and women to train with, all shapes and sizes, and we always have a black belt professor to teach. Each of the professors has their own style, but all of them invest the time getting to know the students and are passionate about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Every adult who trains has a story about how BJJ has changed their life for the better and the advanced belts are always helping the intermediate/beginners. Schedule is consistent and abundant (4 hours of adult classes a day, kids classes 6 days a week, competition classes for kids, open mats etc.) with a set curriculum, so every day, week after week, we are building on what we already know. It is a touch more expensive than some of the other gyms in the area, but after we did a free trial week here we couldn't imagine trying other gyms and signed up the day the trial ended.”
“I've been training at CJJF Jiu Jitsu in Melissa, TX for three months now, and I can't say enough good things about this academy. From day one, I felt welcomed and supported, even as an older student new to the sport. The instructors are top-notch—professional, encouraging, and always willing to help students improve. They do a great job of breaking down techniques and keeping classes engaging. The program itself is very well organized, with a website, app, and great communication to keep students informed about schedules, events, and important updates. The training environment is fantastic, with a great mix of students in kids, teens, and adult classes. Everyone I've met has been positive and happy with their experience, which says a lot about the culture here. There are plenty of training opportunities throughout the week, so it's easy to find times that fit your schedule. The instructors also do a great job of mixing things up to keep training fun and challenging. If you're looking for a welcoming, well-structured, and fun place to train Jiu Jitsu, I highly recommend CJJF in Melissa. I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far and look forward to continuing my journey!”
“This has been such an amazing and positive sport/martial art to add to our lives. The instructors are incredible! All with different teaching styles and credentials. Some of the masters/coaches are tougher than others but kids need tough/disciplined instruction and I appreciate all they do! Main highlights: - 1 hour classes (I like that it’s a full hour) - 6 days of opportunity to train - A black belt is always present - Commands respect of the students - Holds each student to a high standard that the student can then carry with them throughout day to day life - Very interactive with students Cons: -Word has gotten out. This place is awesome. Class is becoming pretty full. Maybe they will add another class earlier on during the day. TLDR: I cannot recommend this place enough!”
“My 8 and 11 year old kids joined CJJF 4 months ago and absolutely love it. My kids have been asking to do some sort of martial arts towards the end of the school year. Coming from experience, I highly recommended that they do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since it was something that I have done in the past and know for a fact that this has real-life applications that works. They completed the trial period, and we signed them up. I was really impressed by how the whole gym staff worked together from the manager, the coaches, and the professors. The professors and the coaches worked so well with the kids which is an amazing feat. You can see how they watched every kid in class to ensure that the kids are learning safely and progressing in their journey. Long story short, I ended joining as well a week after my kids started. I have lost 20 lbs. my first 2 months and now maintains a 25 lbs. total weight loss since I started. CJJF coaches and professors are willing to provide you what you need to reach your goals whether it's for fitness, health(mental and physical), self-defense, or competitive sports. You just really need to get in there and see the progress yourself. It's a life-changer for sure.”
“My children have been attending CJJF for a couple of months and we couldn’t be happier. They always make sure everyone feels welcome and they cheer all on. We joined for the discipline BJJ provides and we got so much more!”
