With zero experience and a whole lot of skepticism, I joined Claunch Academy of BJJ last December (12/23) as part of my mid-life crisis - best decision ever. The Details & Extras: For those interested in specifics, Claunch Academy offers both gi classes (Tuesday, Thursday, and half of Sunday) and no-gi classes (Wednesday, Friday, and the other half of Sunday). The training is undoubtedly intense - I felt like vomiting after my first couple classes (although that probably speaks about my general lack of health)! - but if you can stick with it, the rewards are well worth it (and you quickly get used to the pace). Further, if you ever need to sit out a round, it's judgement free and you can jump back in whenever ready. They've also got a deep bench of black belts and multi-striped black belts - I won't pretend to fully appreciate their expertise, but it's reassuring to know that we're in good hands! Plus, as an affiliate of Team Brasa, Claunch Academy has a "drop-in" relationship with Mario Esfiha Brazilian Jiu Jitsu up the street, so if you need more classes or different times (or a change of scenery), there are options available. I've heard great things from teammates who've taken advantage of this partnership - it's just another perk of being part of the Claunch Academy community!”
