I can't recommend Corvus Jiu Jitsu enough. What sets this gym apart is the exceptional instructors, Steffen and Miguel. Their passion for Jiu-Jitsu is infectious, and their dedication to each student's progress is truly remarkable. They patiently break down techniques, offer personalized guidance, and inspire us to push beyond our limits. Thanks to their expertise and encouragement, I've seen tremendous growth in my skills and confidence on the mats.

For me, Jiu Jitsu (Jits) is another form of playing chess that not only requires expansion of my mind but also requires me to become more aware of my body. I started my Jits journey back in July 2022 and although I found myself frustrated because the moves didn’t come easy to me during the first 3 months, it has become a staple practice in my life that I can’t do without. It has given me a new hobby to master, which stimulates my mind and pushes my body to be stronger and more mobile, as well as allowed me to find a community of individuals that are my kindred spirits. I found Corvus Jiu Jitsu after trying out a few other BJJ gyms around the Salt Lake area - all had their own flavor mainly driven by the instructors and the types of students that the various environments attracted. I decided to make Corvus JJ my primary Jits gym because they have a great community of individuals who are there to learn and have fun, and are less interested in stroking their ego and needing to prove that they can take down someone much smaller than them… this is coming from a 5 ft. 120 lb. woman. The Jits community are fairly tight, many students try out a few gyms and eventually land with their right clan. What makes Corvus JJ stand out over the other gyms I’ve tried is their instructors. Steffen (the owner and black belt 3rd degree) provides the right amount of instructions when showing the moves: explaining every step from starting position to finish. He first shows the entire move then breaks each step into more manageable actions, explaining the reasoning behind each step. He allows the students to practice with a partner between each step so that students try it out for themselves. He will also go around watching and giving feedback on how to improve any troublesome maneuvers. Miguel and Dan are also great instructors, providing the right amount of explanation on how-to execute a particular move. As a woman, in a mainly man-dominated environment, all the male instructors I’ve been taught by have made me feel safe, respected, and acknowledged. However, for any ladies who are on the fence about trying out Jits, then starting with the Women’s classes is an even more welcoming environment. Jenna is a great instructor and gives instructions that are easy/straight forward to follow. She breaks down the moves into small steps that make them easier to not just to practice but also remember. She is very good at adapting to the students present in her class and has the patience to go over the moves through various different learning styles. These classes are the perfect combination of learning Jits in a safe and welcoming environment, as well as, feeling like you’re part of a sisterhood. On top of the in-person training, Corvus have a Discord channel that contains a record of the curriculum being taught for the month as well as videos showing the moves, so if you are forgetful like me, it’s a great place to go back and revisit how to execute the moves. Lastly, another aspect that I love about Corvus JJ is the support and preparation they provide if you’re interested in competing in tournaments. I decided to participate in some competitions to keep me motivated to learn more moves and hopefully one day reach black belt status. Both times I’ve competed, coach Steffen has been there to provide encouragement and support. If you’re interested in competing, you’ll have a great team of instructors behind you all the way. For Corvus JJ, it’s not about the medals (although we’ve had our fair share), it’s more about being there for each other… a family I never knew I could live without.

Corvus Jiu Jitsu is an incredible studio. The instructors are well trained, thorough, and take the time to really explain the methods. Steffan - the head instructor, is amazing at what he does, and we are lucky to have such a high caliber instructor in Northern Utah. The atmosphere is incredibly positive, accepting, and inviting for people of all ages. Would highly recommend!

I have practiced jujitsu for a few months before joining Corvus. I am pleased that I made this decision because Professor Steffen possesses exceptional expertise in conceptualizing systems of movements and delivering comprehensive explanations. His teaching approach is structured, allowing us to learn step by step. Since joining Corvus, my jujitsu skills have advanced rapidly, and I have gained a wealth of knowledge within a short time period. The facility at Corvus is impeccably clean, and the staff and members are remarkably friendly. I have formed meaningful connections and friendships with fellow practitioners. The instructors at Corvus devote significant time and effort to research and develop their classes, ensuring that the content is presented in a readily understandable format. Miguel's profound knowledge and Carli's genuine enthusiasm greatly contribute to the quality of our sessions. I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Corvus, as it has facilitated substantial personal growth for me.
