The coaches and professors are world class and really take the time to help you understand everything they're teaching. If you want a place to learn jujitsu without it being overwhelming then this is the place to go.”
“If you are looking for an activity for your kid(s) to join but they aren't interested in a team sport or maybe don't have the confidence to join a team sport at this time, give the kids' jiu-jitsu classes at DEFCOM (Defense Combatives) Fort Atkinson a try. I attend the classes, with my son, at the Fort Atkinson location (located at 1233 Janesville Ave.) which is just across the street from Blodgett's and the AmericInn Hotel. The kids have a great time! They get the opportunity to have fun, learn self-defense and jiu-jitsu and what's great about it is that they can go at their own pace. Another great benefit is that parents can either watch from the side of the mat or get out on the mat with their kids and learn and practice along with them. The other night I saw a parent join in with the kids' class along with his son, who has been participating for a few months now, and I could see how excited his son was to have his dad out on the mat with him. Martial arts has been a big part of my life and in shaping the man I am today. I was one of those kids who wanted to try team sports but didn't have the confidence. I didn't have a strong male role model in my life while growing up so I didn't have a strong sports background like many other kids do, which made it pretty intimidating to try team sports. I began taking karate when I was in 5th grade and fell in love with it. When I went to college I joined a martial arts club that taught tae kwon do and karate. I realized then, that it wasn't necessarily karate that I fell in love with but martial arts in general. I spent many years learning and teaching others and it gave me a great sense of personal satisfaction and fulfillment. In my older years, I fell out of touch with martial arts but am so excited to have found DEFCOM for me and my son. The teachers are great and very patient. The kids love going to the classes and are always excited to be there. Martial arts are a fantastic way to help your kids build confidence and to help parents connect with their kids. Jiu-Jitsu is so much fun. Even just watching your kids at practice will help you bond and connect with them because you will be able to talk about the classes, the new moves they learn and, to see them get stripes on their belt is pretty amazing, for both the kids and their parents. If you are looking for something new and different this year, come check out the classes, you won't be disappointed. See you there! Tony”
