Chris is one of the best black belts in the sport of Jiu-Jitsu and very knowledgeable in combat sports as a whole. Having trained and competed with some of the best in the world , I would say Chris would give some of highest level athletes a run for their money. He is always very generous in sharing his techniques and very good at explaining it as well. Training with Chris would help you improve at a fast rate whether you’re a competitor or some one looking to train casually.

Grapple Box/East side BJJ is unique and so is Chris who takes great pride in teaching. Conveniently located in downtown Manhattan (short walk from Wall Street subway station), Grapple Box focuses a lot on techniques that form the core of BJJ. I have had the opportunity to train in Singapore and some other parts of Asia over the years, and the increasing focus on competition BJJ is slowly taking away the self-defence element of the martial art. Chris does well (and is supremely patient) to bring this balance back by focusing on takedowns & connecting them to submissions while also sprinkling the lessons with guard escapes, for example. On a typical day, you can expect to learn techniques for majority of the class duration and spend 30-40 minutes in drilling those techniques, instead of just free sparring from knees. If you are waiting to start your martial arts journey, do consider Grapple Box/East side BJJ. It may do wonders to your conceptual understanding of the sport.

Chris is amazing person, they always are with a good vibe, the communication is through wapp and is updated everyday. Classes are very interesting and very helpful to develop jui jitsu skills. ☺️

I’ve had no experience in BJJ and Sensei Chris Reymann has been excellent in teaching his art. He is very detailed, technical and passionate about every step he does, Highly recommend it to any level.

Excellent jui jitsu gym. I began training here with zero experience. The instructor, Chris, as well as the other students were extremely welcoming and supportive. Chris is extremely passionate and attentive and genuinely cares about developing his students, regardless of their skill level. I have also found very good training partners here that vary in skill level. Overall, I believe you will be valued here as a student due to the passion of Chris and you will develop quickly as a result.
