Explore Jiu Jitsu Techniques“I found the facility to be clean and spacious, the coaches to be nice and knowledgeable, and the participating families to be nice and welcoming. Their biggest downfall seems to be their administrative person Dana or Diane, I'm not completely sure of her name. She should learn how to talk to people, because obviously she does not know how to do that... After, I was attempting to steer my son back to his proper age group, after he jetted across lines of bigger, heavier kids, Diane, suddenly jumps in my face and says, "The coaches will handle it and if you don't like it, you can yell at your son at home for free." Then she turned and began talking to someone else.I don't have a problem with being corrected, but she obviously uninvited my family and I with the latter part of her rant. All of those great things I observed went out the window. There's no way I would leave my child under the care of someone like that... We were offered another free week by the coach, yet no acknowledgement of the disrespect from Dana - That made it twice as disrespectful. I can be accountable, but can Ground Control do the same with distasteful behavior from one of their outwardly facing employees? I have other inferences about that interaction, but I'll hold off.”
“Went to Ground Control for a special women's self-defense class hosted by Be Loud, a local non-profit dedicated to SA awareness and prevention. Erin, Elena, and Dana were all wonderful and went out of their way to help everyone feel comfortable. As someone who tries to avoid crowds in general, I was very hesitant coming into the class, but I walked away with very practical techniques.”
“Highly recommend training at Ground Control Owings Mills. The instructors are very knowledgeable, the team is friendly, and you will meet a ton of other cool people also looking to improve their skills and get fit. Great place for all levels from beginner to advanced.”
“This will sound like an exaggeration, but this gym has changed my life. I signed up for the free 7-day trial about a year ago and never looked back. I started during a dark time in my life, and this place and its people have provided a safe space, a community, a team, and a support system that have added to my life in immeasurable ways. Importantly, this is a great, safe gym for women. Every single coach treats you with respect regardless of gender, age, or skill level. Issues with other members (of which I've seen almost none) are dealt with professionally and discreetly by staff. This gym is taken seriously in competing because so many members compete and win, but no one is pressured to compete if they just come for fun and fitness. This past year I won Rookie of the Year, which made me realize that this place rewards effort, hard work, and heart over anything else. I plan on staying with this gym as long as possible, which I hope will lead to more friendships and me beginning to compete.”
“When starting a new school or martial art you may have animosity. I can tell you that when my son and I walk into the facility the instructors and the students are more than welcoming. It doesn't seem to matter whether your a mma fighter or want to train for health reasons, EVERYONE helps EVERYONE. Ever had a MMA fighter that you have seen on TV show you how to defend yourself or help you with movements? My son enjoys the atmosphere and the fighters with in it. Big shout out to the staff for always making us feel part of a bigger family. David & Tristan "Go Time" & "Monzter"”
