This gym is awesome! Well cared for, clean, organized and very welcoming. Anna & Richard are both excellent owners/coaches, they are kind, knowledgeable, and patient. I was excited to take my first class here recently - the ladies BJJ class was really fun and I look forward to attending more of their other classes here in the future!

This gym is absolutely fantastic! They offer a wide range of classes to fit any schedule. The coaches are outstanding—highly skilled, supportive, and truly invested in your progress. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have been training your whole life. You’ll feel right at home here. Couldn’t recommend it more!

(This review is long) I took a full month to reflect on my experience before sharing. If you’re experiencing any of the following, I highly recommend starting martial arts—ideally here at Impact, specifically the Hillsboro location: Anxiety, depression, insomnia, self-image issues, or lack of confidence If you're a woman or petite woman who feels physically vulnerable If you’ve been targeted in public, are looking for friendships, relationships outside of bars, or a supportive community If you're introverted, need a workout, or want a challenge. I joined a month ago, and just a few days in, an instructor paired me (a 33-year-old) with an 11-year-old girl who’s been training for two years. She gave me a run for my money! That moment showed me how valuable jiu-jitsu (JJ) is, especially for women. I’m hooked and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I first noticed this gym while going to Planet Fitness next door. At the time, I was in a deep depression and never inquired about it. Years later, when my husband was diagnosed with cancer, I began to feel physically vulnerable. Joining Impact changed everything. JJ has taught me to use my body as it is and work with it. I constantly think, “I wish I’d started sooner,” which I hear from everyone who trains. It’s incredible what you can learn in a month—imagine years or decades of training. I’ve struggled with body image issues my entire life. I hated being petite and wished I were thicker and stronger. Weightlifting only made me hyper-focus on “fixing” my body and worsened my self-image. But JJ taught me to embrace my body as it is. The gym is full of people of all shapes and sizes, each excelling in their way. This perspective shift has even changed how I see others in public—you never know if the tiny person next to you is a purple belt! Making friends outside of work has been hard for me because most of my socializing happened at bars. At Impact, I’ve found a supportive environment where I feel welcomed and encouraged. If you’re hesitant, be vulnerable and try a trial class. Sample both JJ and Muay Thai (MT). The coaches and students are incredibly patient and knowledgeable. JJ and MT have helped me manage anxiety that I’ve had since childhood and drastically improved my sleep quality. I train once a day, and if I could, I’d go multiple times because of how amazing I feel afterward. The rigorous exercise dissolves the knot of anxiety I carry in my gut. After just one month, my sleep is regulated, and my anxiety is under control. Even though my depression improved before I joined, training has skyrocketed my personal satisfaction. Each class leaves me feeling accomplished. I’ve experienced gym anxiety in traditional gyms, but at Impact, that anxiety melts away as soon as I arrive. The coaches here are incredible: MJ: Tiny but mighty, a force to be reckoned with. Vernon: Detail-oriented and incredibly humble. Journee: Patient and excellent at breaking down techniques. Marcus: Brings humor and energy to every class. Sean: Takes time after class to show how JJ and MT blend into MMA. Nate: A black belt who teaches with calmness and clarity—perfect for beginners. Richard and Anna: The gym owners, both incredibly knowledgeable and approachable. Anna is a real-life Wonder Woman! Impact JJ has created a safe space for everyone—misfits, athletes, and everyone in between. They encourage you to come as you are. JJ and MT will help you love and respect your body, understand its limitations AND potential! (I wish I could share more but theres a character limit) - just come and try it out! & a shout to to my fellow classmates!!

A bit nervous going to a new gym for the first time here and in SD (started my BJJ journey in MD) I was pleasantly surprised! This is a great gym! It’s a clean and very competitive environment with all different ages, weight classes and skill levels. The instructors are welcoming and very knowledgeable. In the two days I was in town and attended classes as a blue belt we learned two techniques I was aware of and taught differently. I already have two new techniques to add to my arsenal! When I move to Hillsboro in the near future, this is where I will be training 💯
