“My family was a part of Inspire Jiu-Jitsu since it first opened, and we've watched it grow over the years. However, after careful consideration, we made the difficult decision to leave in November due to how a serious situation was handled. The incident that led to our departure involved my daughter, who is high-functioning autistic. She was physically assaulted by another student, someone she was not even training with at the time. The owner, Ed Ramos, was present during the assault and observed what happened. After the incident, we let him know that we expected action to be taken, but he told us there was nothing he could do. No meaningful action was taken to address the situation, and there was no acknowledgment or apology offered to our family. This lack of response made us feel that our concerns, as well as our daughter’s safety, were not a priority. What made this even more troubling was learning that after we left, a similar situation occurred involving a different autistic student. In that case, the autistic student pushed another member, and Ed immediately kicked the student out of the gym. An apology was made to the other family involved. Unfortunately, we never received an apology or acknowledgment regarding the incident with our daughter, which only reinforced our feelings of being unsupported. These incidents have made it clear to us that Inspire Jiu-Jitsu does not prioritize creating a safe, respectful, or inclusive space for individuals with disabilities. Our experience showed that there were no accommodations made to support our daughter, and the handling of situations involving autistic students, in particular, raised concerns about how the gym treats individuals with special needs. While we've had many positive experiences at Inspire over the years, the way these issues were managed led us to the conclusion that we can no longer recommend the gym. We hope this feedback can encourage the gym to reflect on its approach to safety, respect, and inclusivity, especially for students with disabilities.”
