“My sons have been taking Jiu-jitsu lessons at Kama for over a year for self defense. My husband had done quite a bit of research on local studios about 5 years ago and was interested in Kama but the studio did not teach kids under the age of 5 at the time. We took a trial lesson as soon as we found out they did. It took about a month before my younger son broke out of his shell. I commend Coach Brandon and Coach Trenton for their effort and patience. All of the coaches, though they have different teaching styles, have truly improved my sons' confidence and given me some peace of mind. I have taken a few women's self defense classes and have found the techniques to be simple, but seemingly effective (I haven't had to test them in real life and hope to never have to). My older son competed, on his own accord, for the first time this weekend. I was feeling ashamed not knowing what I could do for him while all the other competitors were warming up and working on drills. I was touched when Coach Saito surprised us at the arena. We had no expectation that anybody from the studio would attend given that I only told them two days before the competition that my son was signed up, and because he was the only young student competing. Coach Saito made the early morning drive (doors opened at 7am) all the way to Dallas to support my son and worked with my son on a move right before one of the matches, which my son used to put his competitor in submission. The matches would not have gone as well as they had without Coach Saito's support and guidance. I didn't realize until watching the other competitors and their coaches, how other studios have a different focus even though they taught Jiu-jitsu, it was then that I was really grateful that Kama is the way it is. Thank you to all the coaches and training buddies for their words of support, high fives and pats on the back. For these and many other reasons, we are blessed to be a part of the Kama family and this community.”

“I’ve been training at Kama Jiu Jitsu for six years, and my son has been with them for about a year. We absolutely love it! The emphasis on self-defense, the structured curriculum, and the strong support for veterans and frontline workers truly set this place apart. They organize fantastic events that bring our community together, both on and off the mats. Every session feels like working out with an extended family. The instructors genuinely care about our progress and are excited to help us achieve our fitness and self-defense goals. In less than a year, I’ve seen a remarkable boost in my son’s confidence—he even refers to it as "ninja school," which brings a smile to my face! As a retired veteran, I appreciate the safe and welcoming environment. I’m proud to say that I’ve reached the purple belt level, and I truly feel like I’ve stumbled upon a hidden gem. My family and I couldn’t be happier with our experience at Kama Jiu Jitsu!”

“I come from Kav Magra background so this is not exactly foreign to me. My children ages 8, 9, and 10 absolutely love it. Not only is the staff responsive but the the other members are quick to help. If you are looking for a community of supportive participants and quality training then look no further.”

“I have been practicing at Kama Jiu-Jitsu since 2021, after being a part of various other sport-centered gyms. Kama Jiu-Jitsu has significantly enhanced my understanding of the discipline. The classes are taught in great detail, which I truly appreciate. Jiu-jitsu has also positively impacted my personal life. For instance, a few weeks ago after a morning class instructed by Greg, I felt physically tired but mentally focused and serene. While driving to work, I unexpectedly received a work call from an investigator for an unplanned interview. Despite being grilled for over an hour about a work situation, I remained calm and was able to provide clear, well-reasoned answers. I attribute my composure during the interview to my morning jiu-jitsu training. I am grateful to Kama Jiu-Jitsu for deepening my understanding of jiu-jitsu and for its positive impact on my personal life.”
