Kimura is an awesome place to learn and train. It is a very friendly, diverse, and encouraging environment for all ages and skill levels. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and make the hard work enjoyable. In the couple years that I have been around Kimura I have seen many people show up, become part of the community, get in shape, and vastly improve their martial arts. Can't recommend enough.

My three girls had Jiu Jitsu for few years in Hong Kong already, so they are so grateful that they can find the other wonderful Jiu Jitsu school in Boston. All coaches are so friendly, patient and knowledgeable with their skills. It made them feel welcome and love to join their class.

Kimura is a school that prioritizes on fundamentals which range from technique, body movement, pace, and your own personal development. Their schedule is the best around ranging from morning, noon and evening for adults. I was surprised at how kind and welcoming the coaches and other members were in welcoming me in and providing extra attention in assisting with drills that were completely foreign to me. While practicing, they’d give step by step instructions that would give a better understanding of the details within the drill. As a beginner, it takes time to develop proper technique and fundamentals and their classes reflect the philosophy that a strong foundation is the key to success. Whether you’re in it for self-defense or competition the coaches at Kimura have the patience, encouragement and support any new student could need…with an occasional chuckle or two. Never thought jiu jitsu would be a world I’d be part of and I can confidently say I am truly proud. It’s a beautiful sport and I now know why it’s considered an art. Thank you to ALL the coaches AND teammates who have helped me along the way and I do mean ALL. You’ve changed me more than you know. (Noteworthy mention: the last two Grappling Industries competitions, Kimura won Best Team Overall with the most wins from a school. Especially the camaraderie shared amongst coaches/teammates rooting for each other whether you competed or attended to support fellow teammates.)

I've practiced at Kimura BJJ for about half a year in 2024. With just about 4 years of experience in BJJ in total and a blue belt with 3 stripes I'm not really advanced, but not an entire freshman neither: I have regular experience from 3 other American schools, and 3 European ones. I can responsibly write that Kimura BJJ is a great BJJ school and recommend it to anyone who wants to check the sport. It is also offering morning, noon and evening classes, so scheduling is not an issue. The instructors are super professional and able to teach both to recreational and competitive students. The number of black belts is, arguably, the highest among schools in the Boston area, and it is typical that at least 2-3 black belts come to any class. Both gi and no-gi classes are offered, and in both cases taught by several different instructors, so you can choose your preferred instruction style. I've had a chance to learn from Bryan, Dave, Marv, McCormick, Nick, and Stan - all helped me understand different aspects of the game. Classes typically take 1 hour, sometimes followed by an open mat. Most, if not all, classes involve live rolling. Most instructors take good care to teach a specific curriculum, intentionally developed and introduced over weeks to really well introduce specific BJJ concepts - this approach is super useful, and works well for groups containing beginners, advanced and expert practitioners. The rolling culture is friendly, and people are eager to help each other grow, as well as adjust to the needs of others. The school is dog-friendly and, on occasion, a dog or two wait in the reception area for the owners to finish their training.

I started BJJ and have been training at Kimura Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Boston for about a years now (white belt); hands down the best place around to start, advance, or drop in! The instructors’ knowledge and quality, the culture and community, and of course the cleanliness is at world class level. And after trying it myself I am bringing my kid here, too, and I know of plenty other parents that do the same. My daughter enjoys it and learns a lot. Hi Ly recommended if you want to start your journey at BJJ or if you’re looking for a gym to join.
