βCoach Kyle has been welcoming and supportive of me coming in as a new adult female with no jiu-jitsu experience. The community aspect of Kraken has been a great experience for my whole family. 3 of my kids have been involved in the kid classes, the coaches have been encouraging and helped the kids feel comfortable. Glad we ended up here to train.β
βIn 2020 I started training Jujitsu for fun and self defense. The bonus most people donβt expect is the community of kids and adults supporting each other. The kids classes are always fun and help us learn and grow in our jujitsu abilities and the same goes for the adult and judo classes. We all get to watch each other progress and get better. As a teen girl Iβm really inspired by the women that get on the mat. The help and support shown to one another is incredible. The same goes for the law enforcement officers who train with us, and all the other people who train as well. Kyle, the head coach at Kraken and Jeff the assistant coach, are constantly helping us improve our technique. If one thing doesnβt work they will help us learn how to make it work, and the same goes for judo. Jujitsu has helped me develop the personality and helped shape me into the person I am.β
βFor years, numerous coworkers and friends would constantly tell me of the need to start training. We focus so much on training in different areas that are only a small portion of the job. It wasnβt until I got a phone call from a good friend and coworker who was training at Kraken at the time. I remember it well even more than a year later. He told me I had no more excuses, that Professor Mattson had adopted the Blue Line to Blue Belt program, and explained what that meant. I realized at that moment he was right and bought a Gi, rash guard, and shorts. I still remember my first class and that first live roll. I remember admitting, after a very long six minutes, what I had been told so many times, that I was wrong. I was wrong in thinking that the very periodic defensive tactics refresher would be sufficient over regular training. The instruction, camaraderie, and accountability are, if accepted, life changing. The training received can be potentially life saving and the coaches know this and work toward making each individual there the best versions of themselves. Watching the outstanding coaches interact with individuals from all ages and all walks of life, led my young son to also start training. The lessons we both continue to learn on the mat echo across to our daily lives. I will forever be grateful for the persistence of friends and the generosity and opportunities Professor Mattson and coaches continue to offer.β
βhighly knowledgeable and welcoming, dropped in while traveling for work.β
βKraken Jiu Jitsu is a fantastic place to learn Brazilian Jiujitsu and Judo. The instructors are phenomenal and give each student's technique attention. I've been training here for three years and couldn't imagine being anywhere else. The Judo instruction is particularly fun. One of the first things you learn is how to fall safely. There's no feeling in the world quite like sailing through the air when a training partner executes a shoulder throw. The classes grow every week, and it's amazing to have dedicated training partners and instructors that push you to be your best.β
