I had a very negative experience at this gym and would not recommend it. Hygiene: The facility was poorly maintained in terms of hygiene. There's usually hairs and trimmed fingernails in between the mats. The mats are overcrowded, and gear is scattered everywhere. I observed discriminatory and biased behavior from staff : People who are personal friends with the instructor, or are gifted in athletics, receive more hands-on training than everyone else. Even though we pay the same monthly price. I understand that favoritism and biases are a part of life. But here, it's made painfully obvious. Safety: I sustained a long-term neck injury due to a lack of proper supervision during training. The gym failed to take responsibility or offer any meaningful support afterward. I can no longer train jiu jitsu consistently because of the injury. I also received a broken rib from the Muay Thai instructor when he lost his temper during a pad session. This instructor has been corrected several times before for roughing up new guys, being a gym bully, lack of self-control, and leaving bruises on a female client. He is still allowed to teach and train. False identity: The "Muay Thai" program is an American kickboxing class guised as Muay Thai. It primarily focuses on punching and kicking. There's no emphasis on elbows, knees, clinching, or sweeping. The instructor of said class has never competed in Muay Thai and has no respect for the sport. This has been my honest experience.

I’d been wanting to start training martial arts for several years but was worried my lack of background and exposure to the culture may eventually choke that desire out(pun intended). I could not have been more wrong. The instructors and members are incredibly supportive and patient as they train with you no matter your skill level. Safety is priority number one. Everyone wants to see you do better and I never once felt like an outsider. My passion to train grows with every class. I highly recommend everyone gives No Illusions a try. You won’t regret it!

My son has always struggled to find an activity that truly excites him. We’ve tried so many different things around the Brookings area, and after each one, I wondered if we’d ever find something he’d truly enjoy. Then we found No Illusions Martial Arts, and I feel like we’ve discovered a hidden gem. It’s not only become his favorite place outside of home, but he’s also learning valuable skills to protect himself. This dojo is exceptional in every way. The studio is beautiful and fully equipped, but what really stands out is the people. The instructors are incredible—they’re welcoming, skilled, and make you feel like part of their family from day one. For the first time, my son has a place where he truly belongs, and as a parent, that means everything to me. I can’t recommend this place enough! Don’t just take my word for it; go see it for yourself—you won’t be disappointed!

My son started in the Ninjas Jiu Jitsu class about a month ago and I have seen a huge change in him. It's inspiring to watch him set goals and want to continue learning even after class ends. He is a pretty shy kid and we live out of town (30 miles north) but the coaches and other kids in class welcomed him with open arms. The coaches are knowledgeable, patient and 100% there for the kids. If you're in search of an activity that instills life lessons, personal growth and another family...No Illusions Martial Arts is where you want to be!
