They heel hook in the gi Yes, you read that right. To some of you this may be blasphemy, to others you will recognize this as a rare trait only found in true believers. I was working in town for a few days and decided to drop in and I am glad I did. If you ever drop in a place, you are always wondering in the back of your mind “am I in the right place?” but all my wondering was soon answered when the instructor said “Today we are doing heel hooks. If you go somewhere else and heel hook someone in the gi they may have an issue with that but that is their problem not yours.” Not gonna lie this almost motivated me enough to put a gi back on just to heel hook people then I remembered that much like my brother Beej stated “I am no longer a man of the cloth.” Great place, solid instruction and awesome rolls. If I lived around here this would be where I trained. Finally if you are still reading this, it was a no gi class I dropped in on so I cannot confirm they actually heel hook people in the gi but I am going to take the man at his word and judging by some of my rounds I believe they would definitely heel hook in the gi. Again great place to train, HIGHLY recommend it.

Love this place my son loves coming here as well. Great place to get a work out in while also learning to defend yourself.Nash really takes his training class serious and I see the passion he has for it.I wouldn’t have anyone else train my son.Adult classes are great too I’ve learned a lot since I’ve started to attend. Love that me and my son can spar at home while using the same techniques we have learned in class. 100% I would recommend without a doubt.

I’m in Paso with my family on vacation in the wine county. Started my BJJ journey in Feb 2 weeks before I turned 42. Both my 10 yr old daughter and 5 yr old son have been training for over 1.5 yrs and love it. I dropped in today for the noon class and Brent I the Professor was very kind and easy to talk to. The class structure was just like I am used to back home. If I am ever back in the area I will hopefully make it for another class. Thank you Brent and Garret (my partner) for the training session today. It was what I needed on this vacation. Until next time.

Bottom line: If you are in any way thinking about trying BJJ or relocating to a new gym and living anywhere near this place, head over today and try out a class. If you don't, you'll just be that much older when you finally do. I dropped in for a class while on vacation with my family in Cambria. Brent Dugan, owner and instructor here could not have been more welcoming, which is the hallmark of a great gym in my opinion. I came for the 6 am class so not a lot of folks in just yet, the mats were very clean and the gym has a lot of room. We spoke a bit about my experience level and he went into detail about what to expect with the class. The instruction in the class was very clear and easy to understand. I really liked the way Brent broke down the steps into the basic move we were working on that day, then finishing the move, and finally what it's going to look like in real rolling, reviewing possible reactions and counters. The welcoming feeling continued from Brent to all of the rest of the members of the class. Finding rolling partners during free-roll was easy, which isn't always the case being a larger person, and each partner had great technique and was quick to reset after a tap, ready to go. I felt no ego rolling which can be difficult for some newbies or visitors. Brent, Simon, Clint, Kirk, Kevin, and the rest, thank you for the time this week!
