“Amazing gym with quality instruction. Highly recommend! I stopped by this gym on a Wednesday night for their no gi jiujitsu class and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a gym. The instruction and class itself was amazing. The head instructor/owner Chad Vazquez has one of the most fluid and polished teaching styles that I have ever experienced. This is a perfectly midsized gym, perfect for having enough people to roll with and sufficient mat space but not HQ levels of attendance so you still get that nice community going. Some things that stood out to me that unfortunately you don't find at every gym is that the instructor remains very engaged with the students during drilling and sparring. He is also pretty vigilant about safety and keeping groups from crashing into each other and helps match up training partners which I appreciate! Everyone was really nice and introduced themselves too which makes it very welcoming. They have lockers and showers as well that were kept in good shape with body soap provided. (The women's locker even had a hairdryer which is a step above any other gym I've visited..) The gym seems to be pretty meticulous with keeping good hygeine too. Overall, I wish I had more time to stay in the area and train here because its a great gym!”

“The best no-gi grappling gym in Manhattan! Enjoyable for a beginner, a hobbyist, or a competitor. Great technique. Nice people. No drama. Good price. Plus the no head-contact striking classes and special seminars. Highly recommended.”

“Did a drop in while in town for work. Great crew and great coach in Chad. Working on leg locks and he did a great job explaining and being clear about what levels are allowed to do what. I was very impressed by the team and the level of instruction. I travel a lot and this was the best coaching I’ve had outside my home gym!”

“I love training at this hidden gem of a gym, where the jiu jitsu is functional, the students are scrappy and the vibe is chill. Chad’s jiu jitsu is excellent and he teaches his classes in a supremely approachable manner. It won’t matter if this is your first class, or 500th, you will learn attacks and escapes that will work equally well against the higher belts and noobs. So if you want to learn how to fight, and have fun doing it, this is the place for you. Plus the morning classes are great if your evenings are full.”

“So much jiu jitsu in NYC, but paxibellum definitely stands out. Chad runs a safe and controlled room, but allows space for his students to problem solve and improvise on the fly. Great, casual dynamic that is fantastic for beginners, but the actual jiu jitsu is applicable and very high level.”
