Last week I spend training and teaching at this school. I was deeply touched with such a warm family feeling among all the students and instructors. I am visiting from Utah and in my 12 y.o. Jiu jitsu journey I have visited many different schools and met different instructors. Seth, the owner and main instructor is very passionate about the art of jiu jitsu and teaching it. I witness his finesse with kids. It is a safe and fun environment to develop skills no matter your age. They welcome new knowledge, create super interactive environment for learning and growth. I had a chance of witnessing team and coaching during local competition last Saturday. Coach methodically analyzed every match of kids and adults. He spoke to every athlete after the match, vocalizing the strength and weaknesses. He deeply cares. Students are very friendly, curious and accepting. Their environment is very safe to train for women. I heard they are also conducting the women only self defense classes. Highly recommend to join and see for yourself.

Pirate BJJ offers a welcoming and inclusive environment for both kids and adults, with a focus on personalized coaching and a strong sense of community. Our grandson looks forward to each class. The gym's approach to training is less traditional and more relaxed, catering to individuals who prefer a more informal atmosphere. Classes emphasize practical techniques and concepts, often taught through games and interactive activities. Overall, Pirate Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a great option for those looking for a supportive and engaging BJJ community.

Seth is a very high level and knowledgeable coach that has created a fun, safe, and effective way of teaching and sharing jiu-jitsu. Most impressively, he trains/rolls daily with the students. PBJJ classes are well structured and beneficial for all skill levels, from hobbyist to competitors. And as a bonus, the students are encouraging, helpful, and genuinely care about each other. If you are going to do a hard thing as a hobby, do it with Coach Seth and the folks at PBJJ.

I had the pleasure of teaching a seminar and rolling with these great people. Seth and Hilary have built something beautiful in such a short time. Great vibe excellent instruction and amazing students. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

I travel a few times a year and always try to drop in somewhere. This is the first time I've thought, "I should actually move to this town and train here." BJJ and teaching are two separate skills. Seth has them both, in spades. At almost every gym I've been to, instruction is on the lines of, "Here's a random move of the day. Now drill it for a while. Now we spar." At Pirate BJJ, the class was ACTUAL INSTRUCTION, along the lines of, "Here's an additional point within the context of what we've been studying in previous classes. Try it this way for a bit, try it that way for a bit. Notice the differences. Any questions? No seriously, please ask questions." Seth actually cares about what his students are learning, and about continually finding effective ways to foster that learning. As a result, he has built an environment where the students care more about learning, experimentation, and long-term improvement than about "winning" in practice rounds. The results show, in both the quality of skill in the students and in the learning-focused character of the rounds I got in post-class open mat. Now I'm looking for any excuse to visit the Huntsville area again, just to train here. Six stars.
