Explore Jiu Jitsu Techniques“I highly recommend Range Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, conveniently located in the heart of NYC’s Upper East Side, for parents searching for an outstanding martial arts school for their kids. It’s an exceptional environment where kids can have fun while developing physical strength, coordination, and mental resilience through BJJ’s unique blend of techniques and discipline. My son, who joined three years ago at age 6, quickly became passionate about BJJ, inspiring me to join as well. We have made great friends on the mat. Eduardo leads an outstanding program with skilled coaches for both GI and NO-GI ready to help students of all levels, having a welcoming space that promotes continuous learning and personal growth. The mentorship is exceptional, always supporting our ongoing BJJ journey. Range BJJ is truly top-notch.”
“Joining Range BJJ gym has been one of the best decisions I’ve made! From day one, the atmosphere has been welcoming, and the students are incredibly friendly and supportive. Everyone, regardless of skill level, is willing to help each other grow, making it an ideal place to train. Coach Eduardo is an outstanding instructor—patient, knowledgeable, and always encouraging. His guidance has not only improved my technique but has also boosted my confidence tremendously. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, this is the perfect place to challenge yourself and grow both physically and mentally. Highly recommend!”
“A long review but hopefully my experience helps others curious about Range. My kids and I have been training for quite some time and have had the opportunity to work through a few schools in the city, small and large. I can honestly say that Range BJJ is one of the best schools in the city and certainly the best in the UES. Eduardo has built an incredible environment for training. The school is very well-equipped, with multiple mat spaces, more than ample showers/changing rooms, and a weight/PT room…and kept immaculately clean, a point that can’t be stressed enough. Eduardo and his team offer highly technical training and precise instruction with a focus on building a well-rounded foundation. The training is tough with many partners on the mat to help sharpen your skills, but all with that close instruction feel and personal connection that is often lost in other schools. Finally, all schools have a unique culture that has an impact on a student’s experience. Eduardo is a great person and a friend to all, community-minded both on and off the mats, and seeds the school with that same ethos of respect and camaraderie. That first day on the mats is very exciting(!) and each day afterwards is a reward in formidability, fitness and friendship. I really can’t say enough good things, come on by and check it out!”
“Range BJJ stands out for many reasons, and the core positives — the exceptional instruction, spotless facilities, and welcoming atmosphere — are often rightfully highlighted. However, I want to draw attention to the smaller, sometimes overlooked details that truly define the culture at this gym. In a sport like BJJ, injuries are hardly uncommon, and I unfortunately experienced a hamstring injury during my training. What sets Range apart is the way the staff goes above and beyond in moments like these. When the injury occurred, Eduardo immediately shifted from instructor to genuinely concerned parent. He was there in an instant, offering an ice pack and intensely assessing the injury with care and expertise. Over the course of my recovery, Eduardo consistently checked in, offering both moral support and practical advice. There was absolutely no pressure or rush to return until I felt completely ready. This level of personalized care had a lasting impact on me, and it’s what ultimately motivated me to come back to Range. Had it not been for the genuine support I received from the Range team, I may not have returned to Jiu-Jitsu at all. There’s no comparison to the level of care and community that this place offers, and for as long as I’m in New York, Range will always be my first choice — hands down.”
“Range is the place to train for gi jiu jitsu in NYC. I've been a member for about 9 months (coming from a different club) and I have been thoroughly impressed by the whole experience. The owner, Eduardo Capeluto, is not only a world-class jiu jitsu athlete (4th degree Lucas Lepri black belt), but his professional and organized approach to instruction is on another level. He cultivates an atmosphere of playful competition beneficial to the hobbyist as well as the more competition-minded athlete. He also pays careful attention to the safety of all of his students. This is also hands down the most hygienic dojo I have ever seen. Everyone wears rashguards under gis regardless of gender, and the bathrooms/changerooms are always spotless. There are also gender-specific showers *inside* the changerooms. None of the above are commonplace in NYC in my experience (excepting maybe the large chain organizations, where you won't get as personalized instruction).”
