βAwesome gym, great team and fun kids program. Best place around to learn and grow in BJJ!β
βThis place is special. For a complete review, I've itemized individual " categories below. Hopefully, this helps potential students and parents make an informed decision prior to attending class. Coaches: It is VERY rare to find exceptional people who share their knowledge and skills freely and passionately. They do so without arrogance, bias, or negativity. While I was not a natural (or a natural athlete for that matter), every coach I had the pleasure of learning under treated me with care, respect, and above all...patience. BJJ is not an easy endeavor. But, the attitude and community focus SCBJJ's coaches express make you WANT to show up to each class without coercion or apprehension. In summary, these folks are passionate and exceedingly excellent. Classmates: I haven't met anyone I didn't get along with and I'm a notorious "hard study" kind of personality. Not that I don't like people by nature. I'm just a cynic (call it an existential flaw π€·ββοΈ). To fully address my cynical nature, everyone was warm and genuinely helpful. My "upper classmen" and the youth athletes which pinned my face against the mat multiple times (yes, BJJ is a significant meditative exercise in ego management), were ready to go with GENUINE smiles, fist bumps, and advice when my paltry defense was cracked wide open. Two words may describe my time as a white belt. They are humility and gratitude. I suppose that is what summarizes the lessons that have been taught to the generations of students that have learned at this establishment and I am grateful to have been part of it. Cost: Cheap. No really. Look for a quality BJJ gym anywhere else and you'll be paying 50% or more for less individual attention and instruction. Hours of Operation: Seven days a week with well placed training times. Classes are listed as roughly 1 hour each. But, if things are flowing nicely, the instructors are liberal with times. Lessons Learned (me personally): Get ready to love the sport of BJJ. This isn't just a statement for the adults. The kids in their youth classes are always exuberant and motivated to return for their lessons. Special thanks to coaches: Jarrod, Jeremy, Jonny, Mary Ellen, Brian, and Davindr. I appreciate each of you.β
βVery family friendly, both my husband and son have been attending class at SCBJJ for years. My son has participated in many tournaments over the years and the coaches are sure to be present at every single one to give guidance to their students. We are so blessed to be part of the SCBJJ family.β
βSince I started, been here a few years since 2021, instructors have always been friendly and possessing the heart of a teacher. Great place to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but also Judo, wrestling, and self-defense. Teachers are humble not demanding be called Sensei or Professor because I tried that when I started but Jon was like I'm Jon it's cool bro don't have to call me Sensei. From the day I first came in until now and others I've witnessed as well have become grappling beasts compared to day 1. I'm much more confident in my ability to use grappling as a means of self defense if needed which includes take downs, take down defense, and Judo throws. Relaxed 'chill' atmosphere takes the pressure off to learn and have fun while being challenged at your own pace to grow in skill with the art but also as a person. Can't say enough positive about the good people here and the huge depth of technique knowledge of the instructors. If you are afraid to try Jiu Jitsu which I was before I started or had bad experiences before give SCBJJ a chance before giving up at learning BJJ is my suggestion.β
