âI canât say enough about the incredible environment at Squarred. From the moment you step on the mats, youâre met with a sensei and trainers who truly care about your growthâmeeting you where you are while challenging you to improve with patience, skill, and respect. The community here is just as amazing. Whether youâre a beginner or experienced, the support is unreal. Open mats arenât just extra training; theyâre opportunities to continue learning, rolling with motivated partners who push you while keeping it safe and respectful. Personally, my growth in BJJ has been beyond what I expected, thanks to the sensei, the community, and even my husbandâwho trains with me. If youâre looking for a great couples activity that fosters a growth mindset, this is it. Highly recommend!â
âHighly recommend the womenâs kickboxing class. The coaches are great and will work with you to tailor the workout to your current fitness level and goals.â
âExcellent jiu-jitsu academy with skilled instructors and a friendly, respectful atmosphere. Perfect for all levels. Highly recommend!â
âDo Not Trust This Company! When I signed up for this gym, my top priorities were two simple questions: 1. Do I pay month-to-month? 2. Can I cancel anytime? Ronnie confidently answered âyesâ to both, without a single mention of any year-long obligation, hidden fees, or extra terms. He never disclosed that Iâd be locked into a year-long contract or stuck with cancellation penalties. If I had known, I NEVER wouldâve joined because I had the possibility of moving within the year. (As a matter of fact he made it sound very easy to cancel, even forgiving a couple days if you hadnât cancelled before your billing date.) Unexpectedly, I ended up needing to move sooner for work. When I called to explain and cancel, they hit me with an outrageous $536 âcancellation fee,â which was supposed to be waived due to my situation. (See attached pic.) Thatâs nearly $1,000 for just 3 classes! And to make matters worse, they took the money from my account before I even had a chance to fill out the cancellation form. Another sneaky detail: Youâre forced to buy one of their gis, which costs $150 for white or $180 for the black, just to step on their mat. That limits you to their gym only. Specifically, the Leominster location, not Worcester or anywhere else. I attended a few classes at $150/mo and even tried to get my girlfriend involved, but thankfully she didnât join. They wanted to charge her for an entire month for just a few days of classes. I can only imagine what kind of âcancellation feeâ she wouldâve faced had she quickly signed a class liability waiver. When I expressed my frustration to Ronnie, explaining that he never disclosed any of this upfront, his response was, âItâs not what I said, itâs what you signed.â That level of dishonesty is beyond frustrating. They prey on peopleâs trust with misleading sales tactics and hidden fine print. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this gym. I initially thought they were a decent group of guys, unfortunately I feel they have no respect for their customers, no transparency, and no shame in taking your money. Definitely do not trust them with your bank information!â
âThis gymâs practices are a disservice to what we stand for in martial arts. As a dedicated member of the BJJ community, I am deeply disappointed with how this gym has handled a few situations. 1. My long-distance boyfriend joined this gym and initially had great things to say about the people and the instructor. He really enjoyed his first few classes, so naturally, I was excited to visit and train alongside him whether that would be for a single class or a few days worth. However, I was shocked to learn that I would have to pay a full $150âthe price of a month's membership vs accommodating and welcoming me for my stay. I've traveled across the country and trained at many gyms, and I've never encountered such an outrageous fee. Most gyms offer a free open mat session where the whole community is welcome or charge a reasonable $10-$15 per class for travelers. Some instructors have even prorated the month for a couple weeks worth of visits. I have only ever been greeted with welcoming arms from other BJJ gyms, very eager to fostering an open environment for sharing and learning new techniques. On top of the crazy fee, I was told I couldnât wear my own Gi (which doesnât even display my home gymâs logo, just the brand name) and that I would have to rent their own (curious how much that wouldâve cost). This gave me the clear impression that this gym is more concerned with making a quick buck than fostering a welcoming community. Iâve never experienced this at any other gym, and it was truly disappointing. You think they would have been happy to have me at all and make $75 or something for a few classes vs nothing at all. 2. My boyfriend also left a review explaining his experience in more detail, but essentially, he asked all the important questions upfront before signing the contractâif he could pay month-to-month (they said âyesâ) and if he could cancel at anytime (they said âyes, its just the $150 monthly feeâ). When we had the opportunity to move and he went to cancel they charged him $536 before he even officially signed the cancellation waiver! Apparently, there was a hidden fee for canceling, which was never made clear upfront. When he reached out to Ronnie the guy responded âitâs not what I said, itâs what you signedâ. They were never transparent about these fees, itâs listed no where in the website and apparently the waiver was signed on a computer, so how could he have brought it home to read in detail? I find this tactic incredibly deceitful and dishonest. At my home gym, my sensei was very transparent about the membership terms, including any fees or cancellation policies upfront, allowing me to sign up with full confidence. Iâm glad I never stepped foot in this gym, who knows what hidden fees I could have been hit with and charged after a drop in visit with a quick sign of a liability waiver before class. Such an incredible disgrace. This gym goes against the respect and integrity we value in the BJJ community. Iâd look elsewhere if you are looking to join a community of good and honest people.â
