From day 1, it has been very apparent that the coaches AND the students that train here are invested in helping anyone who walks through the doors achieve their goals. Im in my 30's with a full time job and train in the mornings at the 6am class. My 5 year old daughter trains at the evening kids class. Here are our favorite parts: 1. Strong Sense of Community, Member Demographics. Walking through the doors your met with some friendly, interesting, and genuinely nice people who go out of their way to introduce themselves and make you feel like part of a team. People who train here seem to leave their egos at the door which creates a fantastic learning environment. There are fit people, not-so-fit people like me who are trying to get into shape, young kids, older people, and anything in between. Don't let these incredible folks fool you with their kindness though, these people can get DOWN on the mats. 2. Training and Coaching Quality: The coaches here are incredibly talented and available. I haven't had a question go unanswered or a flawed technique go unnoticed. Early on I messed up moves so bad people thought I was trying other moves, but instead of humiliation or frustration I was met with help and encouragement. The kids coaches are very patient, fantastic with the kiddos, and make the learning experience of Jiu Jitsu fun. Furthermore, the students (both kids and adults) here are really good at Jiu-Jitsu, so theres never a shortage of good training partners who are willing, able, and even excited to help. 3. Superb Communication: The gym has a robust communication system that involves email and text to compliment what the coaches put out at practice. It keeps us informed of cool events at the gym, changes, and even helps with accountability. I'm fairly experienced in these type of communication systems, and typically don't like them because they are overly noisy and automated to a flaw. Thats not the case here though, they have communication down pat. 4. Jiu-Jitsu itself. Man, this stuff is fun. Its hard, but the coaching and community help remove any roadblocks. I have a blast while getting into shape. I feel like I've discovered a sustainable physical health program that comes with some powerful mental health benefits too. I tried hard to find constructive or negative feedback to add to this review, but I couldn't think of anything I would change or improve for now. I highly encourage anyone interested, regardless of their fitness level, to stop by the front desk and talk with Tracy about the gym and about Jiu Jitsu. She is awesome and will give you a no-pressure rundown on whats to come. See you on the mats!

Having endured humble beginnings in his self defense journey at the ripe age of 14, Dennis Thomas brings a wealth of experience to self-defense training. His dedication is palpable as he carefully selects instructors who embody the Street Jitsu standard for MMA to carry on his direction. The Street Jitsu community fosters a sense of family, providing a robust platform for instilling discipline, self-esteem, confidence, and teamwork in young learners.

Street Jitsu in Roanoke is hands down the best place to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The instructors are incredibly skilled and genuinely care about each student's progress. They create a supportive and motivating environment that makes training both challenging and enjoyable. The gym is always clean and well-equipped, ensuring a top-notch training experience. I've improved significantly since joining and have felt welcomed into a great community. Whether you're new to BJJ or a seasoned practitioner, Street Jitsu is the place to be. Highly recommend it—five stars!

Just finished my first year of BJJ and I am beyond pleased with the Street Jitsu team. Coaches in both morning and evening classes are not only very skilled but very good at teaching. Many wonderful members who are quick to help you learn so it’s nice to not get crushed every time I roll but rather I can learn. It’s also a family friendly set up. Many families have kids who practice from 5 to 6pm then the kids hang out and play games or watch the adult class. Bonus, they have a small weight room that parents can use even if only their kids are participating. And I hear they are opening a Dallas location of you’re in that area.
