Gotta give it 5 stars. If you’re on the Knightsville/Ridgeville-side of Summerville it’s the closest spot to train BJJ that I know of and it’s hosted by the YMCA The Ponds location which is a nice facility with friendly staff that offer childcare while you’re training for kids up to 7 years old. As far as the BJJ itself, Coach Ron is solid. For anyone looking to improve your skills in self-defense then 10/10 recommend giving it a go. The training is safe and catered to the skill level of each individual. My 6 year old daughter is in the tiny Titans class and she loves it. Coach Ron runs a firm but fair program that is—in my opinion—essential for the development of capable, confident, and competent little humans.

Coach Ron is passionate about his students. No matter their ability, his students will definitely learn techniques, build confidence, and grow physical endurance through his coaching sessions while having fun. Coach Ron creates a safe environment where his students learn from each other through persistent rolling sessions. My daughter has many hobbies, and without a doubt her favorite one is learning Jiujitsu. I am so proud how much my daughter has learned from Coach Ron's dojo in only 7 months.

Great coach, great crew, and a great time! Coach Ron's classes take into account what everyone in the room is trying to work/learn and his love of the sport clearly shows. Would absolutely recommend to anyone interested!

Coach Ron runs a great, well rounded program helping kids gain self confidence along the way. My son has been training here for about a year now and looks forward to every class.

We have traveled the southeast with our boys for the past 3 years, my husband has been on the mat for over a decade. We have been to multiple schools with great coaches throughout the southeast and this is the only school we have been to with such an experienced coaching. As they are teaching kids dangerous/paralyzing moves/techniques that aren't even encouraged in adult training. And there's a reason for that. It is more of a WWE move than a IBJJF technique. It should absolutely not be taught in a kids class, unsupervised, or with 'coaches' watching on the mat that are low-level white belt. Our kid got trapped in a hangman/drop down guillotine, the most dangerous move in jujitsu. We had to yell for the match to be stopped, as our kid was tapping unnoticed because there was not enough qualified eyes on the mat. The class was too large for one belted coach and the two low-level white belt teenagers with a power trip, who didn't know what they were watching for honestly.(20+ students) Too many for the mat/room being provided for the class by the YMCA, maybe he can get a bigger room?? I leave this review, in fear someone is going to get hurt. Our experience was only with the kid class and we tried it more than one time, the end result was us walking out mid class, after pulling our kids off the mat due to multiple kids (including ours) coming off the mat crying and being reprimanded by Coach Ron telling them to suck it up and not trying to figure out what actually happened or show them a defense move in what they got caught in, so they can better their training. In his defense, he's a low-level purple belt teaching at YMCA. He thrives on competitions and has won banners, but at what cost? Again, our experience, our review. This is what we experienced after trying his class/school more than once. I contemplated leaving the bad review, but it didn't sit well knowing that kids could get hurt. There wasn't any adult coaches when we were there, only his two daughters.
