“If you’re debating either taking your child here or enrolling yourself, stop debating and just do it. There is no better martial art to learn and no better place in the area to learn it from. Shannon shows tough love to all the kids. He gets the absolute best out of them and pushes them past what they might see for themselves, while showing empathy and encouraging them every step of the way. He gives extra one on one help where needed if he sees someone having trouble, and controls his class with excellence. There is not a wasted moment in the entire lesson. Without a doubt this is the hardest thing you or your kids will ever do, but it is so worth it if you don’t quit and encourage your kids to stick with it. “I joined True Art on Jan 1 of 2024, writing this exactly 7 months later I can 100 percent write with confidence to tell you that this instructor and culture that is throughout the gym will change your life for the better. Class number 1, I was the heaviest I have been I think ever and clinically depressed sitting at 275 lbs. During class number 1 warm ups I could barely make it through the warm ups without getting completely winded. I have steadily been going twice a week (Monday and Wednesday fundamental training) and can not say enough praise that this sport and coach has provided for my personal confidence and overall health. I am now 40 lbs lighter weighing 235, my cardio is the strongest it’s ever been (I am 39 years old). I thought my age and being out of shape was going to slow me down…. This sport and encouragement from higher ranking teammates will forever change your mind on not joining because of age and or physical ability, they will look past both insecurities and want you to succeed if a safe manner. You will get a couple bumps and soreness but trust me those go away and over time you will look past those small items that may have been a huge alarm at the begging. Keep at it. Background, I do have over 12 years of Kickboxing experience but have always wanted to find the time to practice BJJ…. But have always put it off. I wish I practiced this Sport as a kid. If you are considering this sport or if you are an active member of the sport and want to try this gym out….do it. You will fit right in with ease.
