“Training bjj for 9 years currently a brown belt. Trained at several academies so happy I found Professor Babi/Unity. My jiujitsu has improved tremendously with his eagle eye (nothing gets by him) he is a perfectionist and takes bjj very seriously. He customizes bjj for a 52 year old guy. “While there are many jiu-jitsu gyms in the area, Unity is truly special. Professor Babi doesn’t just run a gym, he has cultivated a community. There is a wonderfully diverse spectrum of students–in terms of ability, age (from teens to over 50), and gender (a typical class is about 20% female). The kids program is particularly vibrant (it’s not unusual for Unity to host birthday parties and get-togethers for the students). The program itself is fantastic, with a focus on technique and safety. I’ve never encountered bullies or ‘big egos’, just top-notch instruction in a fun, challenging environment. The fact that many students travel from far outside Jersey City just to train here is a testament to the quality of program that Professor Babi and his staff have built. The space itself is gorgeous, with lots of natural light, a dedicated strength-training area, hang-out spaces, and clean changing/wash rooms. Personally, this gym has changed my life–I’ve lost weight, gotten stronger, increased flexibility, made friends, and discovered a new sport I’m passionate about.”
