“I dropped by this Academy while on vacation and I do recommend it, the instructors were very awesome and made me feel comfortable . Everyone just kept talking about new moves and focusing on the sport. Lots of great coaching between students calling each other great match it’s pretty wild. Just lied, I was never there lol One of the PF dudes asked me to write a horrible review”

“Awesome gym! Clean facilities and fun environment. Very family oriented. My husband and I trained here for 3 years. Great instructors and training partners, we are sad to move out of state!”

“I’ve trained here for 3 years. The moment I walked in the doors I was treated like family. The instructors are phenomenal and so are all of my training partners. You won’t find a better environment than this.”

“My son (13) has been training jujitsu at VBJJ since May 2022, and shortly after, I started training too. At first, I went to the fundamentals classes and later on intermediate and advanced. Over the past 2+ years, I was able to get lots of impressions for almost all instructors and classes for kids and adults alike and would like to share here. The instructors are friendly, respectful, and attentive, and when needed: they are strict. Especially kids often drift away, but coaches bring their focus around and back on the mat. The adult's coaches are very professional! No exceptions! Sometimes, we goof around, but this is a martial arts after all, so safety always comes first, and all belt levels are encouraged to think in a safety first kind of manner. The promotions are entirely based on the discretion of the coaches and based on the skills that the students have acquired and demonstrated and NOT on the number of classes that the student has attended. Tournaments participation are encouraged, but never a must. For a brief period of time, my wife attended women's classes, but like we say here: it is not evebodys cup of tea. It is very hard and very tough and another quote: it is meant to be hard, but if you survive some discomfort here, you will become a lot tougher and survive in any situation that life throws at you. I have a close friend who both his kids train here and I am happy to say that I made many friends here too among the staff and among the students. I would recommend VBJJ if you want to learn the martial arts of jujitsu, grappling, for self-defense, or just for fitness. Many of the people that come here are military or with military background, first responders, police offers, etc. It is a fun place for friendly rolls! And if you want to bring the heat up... no problem: VBJJ has plenty of high-level jujisukas that are up for the challenge! Students pay monthly fee and can come as often as they want. There are free open mats every Sat and Sun. People from other gums come and roll and exchange skills and stories. The mats are super clean and well maintained. I have heard other places have problems with hygiene... NOT here! There are strict rules for hygiene, behavior on the mat, and rolls and everyone respects them... from the fresh white belts all the way to the highest degree black belts.”

“If you are in the Virginia Beach area this is a top notch Academy! Professor Mikey and Scott are amongst the absolute best anywhere! Five stars isn't nearly enough. Everyone was nice and kind and absolutely amazing on the mats!”
