The immersion and exposure to so many different levels of grapplers and teachers is unlike any other school we’ve tried. But the best thing about Virtus is the culture. Family friendly, flexible, but also competitive for those seeking to become champions!”
“Very welcoming gym, I loved training here! Everyone is kind and it's clear they're really trying to foster a good community. Whenever I've brought up a concern, they're receptive and have always addressed it promptly. What I love is that they go out of their way to talk in person and make sure everything is resolved. BJJ is an amazing sport that I would recommend to everyone, and training at Virtus is a great way to improve both in and out of the mats.”
“Best gym in Pensacola! I travel an hour, four times a week, just to train here—and it’s absolutely worth it! Not only is it the cleanest gym I’ve ever seen, but the way they welcome you truly makes you feel right at home. I’m so honored to be a part of the Virtus family!”
“If I could give 0/5, I absolutely would. Martial arts is known to be a rigorous, fundamental, and respectful sport. If that is what you're looking for, look elsewhere. My son has trained at this gym for two years like clockwork, and we started at this facility when they first opened. We were met with open arms by an instructor there that left only a couple of months after our enrollment, due to the management and being treated poorly. The only reason we continued to stay, and brushing the some of the interactions aside is because of the more senior members that have trained there with us. Alyssa, who sometimes manages the front desk, is awful. She is very young with an unchecked attitude and carries an underdeveloped business background. I have watched many people enroll to train and quickly leave due to her attitude alone. Today that includes another member of my family. We will no longer be training here.”
“I dropped in at Virtus BJJ Checkmat Pensacola while in town for work this week, and I was thoroughly impressed. As a traveling purple belt, I’ve visited a fair number of gyms around the country, and this one easily ranks among the best. From the minute I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the front desk and introduced to the head instructor, Professor Jackson. The gym has a clean, professional feel without being overly formal—everyone trained hard, but the vibe was friendly and ego-free. I joined the evening class with the gi, which started with a well-paced warm-up and then moved into some slick closed guard bump sweep concepts that built progressively. Professor Jackson emphasized some key details that I had never seen before, which I appreciated. The rolls afterward were fantastic. Everyone was technical and respectful, which is exactly what I’m looking for as a visitor. Facilities were clean with plenty of mat space. Overall, if you’re a traveling grappler passing through Pensacola, or looking for a home gym, do yourself a favor and check out Virtus BJJ Checkmat Pensacola. It’s one of those gyms where you leave better than you came, and I’m really grateful for their hospitality. I left feeling exhausted, but also blessed to get to train with such great people.”
