What Our Students Say

Hear from our community about how training at our academy has impacted their lives.

Pam S

"This gym is an awesome place to train in Jiu-Jitsu. The teaching that my son receives is top notch. He enjoys his classes with Coach Kevin. He has made lots of friends. It really feels like a family here."

Greg Jennings

"I’m a brown belt visiting from Ohio. Nice school. Very welcoming. Nice facility. Will definitely return."

Colby Coulter

"We moved to Nashville a few months ago and were looking for a gym to get my son (7) and myself involved in. We toured gyms around the hermitage-MJ area and this was the best one for what we were looking for. It’s hands down the best environment for kids. Coach Kevin understands how to communicate with kids in different age groups. He mixes technique with fun games that support the lessons they are teaching the students. As a 10 year elementary physical education teacher, I’m impressed with the structure of the kids program and my son loves coming to class. The adult program is also very inviting. No one is trying to kill each other. There is a good mix of training with similar belts and veteran belts so that you are getting an full experience. Very respectful environment amongst the adults. First gym I’ve been to where I find myself having conversations each time I’m in the gym, not just glaring at each other with the casual “hey”. The schedule is also great for my family. The adult class follows the kids class which allows my son and I to be there together. They also have a variety of lunch and weekend classes as well. Highly recommend for beginners and kids!"

Colby Coulter

"My son (7) and I (30) are 2 months into our classes at GB Mt. Juliet and are still enjoying our BJJ experience. We signed up with this gym primarily because of the child atmosphere. I wanted to introduce my son to BJJ with an instructor that understood how to communicate effectively with kids. Kevin does a great job teaching kids multi-step movements in a way that they can easily pick it up and perform what they are being taught. There is a balanced mix of technique, competition, and fun that keeps my son wanting to come back. I joined shortly after my son and was equally impressed with the adult class. Great mix of new and veteran belts that are very helpful. If you ask questions, you'll get genuine responses. If you want to take it easy for a day, your training partner will match your effort. If you want a competition effort, there are days for that as well. The overall environment is great as well. Plenty of comfortable seating for you to watch your child/family member during class, locker room style bathrooms with showers, and play areas for kids if you need to bring your child with you to class. There are plenty of kids in the building during night classes that play together while their parents are on the mat."
