"This is not a "sport" jiu-jitsu academy. It is a self-defense Jujūtsu school in the Spring area owned by Black Belt Calvin Carter. This school teaches the same Valente Brothers system which is based in North Miami Beach, Florida. We are fortunate to have 2 Valente Brothers-affiliated self-defense Jujūtsu schools in the Texas area. The other school is located in the northwest Houston, Copperfield area. (I have a review for that school as well). In any case, because both schools are affiliated with the Valente Brothers, my husband and I have had the privilege of working with both Black Belt owners and helping at both schools for privates and group classes. At Katana, we have witnessed Calvin Carter as both an amazing teacher and person. He is an excellent representative of the incredible 753 code and philosophy taught by the Valente Brothers. Mr. Carter is regarded highly and respected for his knowledge and passion for Jujūtsu as more than a martial art, but a lifestyle. HIs school is growing and is both professional and welcoming. There is a wonderful kids and adult program. My husband and I, as well as our kids, are truly dedicated to this awesome program and highly recommend that you and/or your kids try it.
