"I’ve been training at TFTC in Cary since 2018, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The people here are like family—good vibes, no egos, just a solid group that loves to train. The instructors are top notch and always take the time to help you level up, whether you're day one or a few years in. Also, the amount of mat space is clutch. Never feels cramped, even on busy nights. If you're looking for a place to train in the Triangle, this is it."

"I’ve been training at TFTC Academy in Cary for about six months now. Over the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of training at a Carlos Machado gym in Dallas and with Rillion Gracie in Miami - both outstanding experiences. When I moved to Raleigh, I set out to find a new home for my BJJ journey. I visited five different academies in the area. While each had great instructors and welcoming people, TFTC stood out from the moment I walked through the door. Adam Velasquez personally greeted me, gave me a tour of the facility, and his passion for jiu jitsu was immediately evident. The culture here is something special. The people are supportive, the atmosphere is positive, and I felt like part of the team from day one. Jiu jitsu is a long and personal journey, and where you train makes a huge difference. I took the time to research and visit multiple gyms, and I’m truly glad I chose TFTC Academy. If you’re new to the area or looking for a place to train jiu jitsu, I highly recommend stopping by. I think you’ll feel right at home, just like I did."

"TFTC in Cary is a clean, welcoming, and great place to train BJJ in the Raleigh area. First, the culture. To me, this is a critical part of any BJJ gym, as you're effectively moving into a new fitness tribe when choosing a gym. The group here was very welcoming from the start, excited to learn what I brought with me while very patient showing me their strengths (which incidentally were big gaps in my existing game). This no-ego, knowledge sharing approach to BJJ is what I love to find in this sport and this gym exemplifies it at all levels. That culture flows from the top. Instructors are happy to share knowledge, observe your game, and open to suggesting ways to fit what they know into your existing strong points rather than you only doing it their way. This collaboration makes everything feel more positive, more personal, and more effective. I can always ask questions and get detailed answers. For newer practitioners or first timers, you may especially like this gym. The FIRST thing I noticed in rolling here was how smooth even the lower belts rolled. I quickly realized why. Every class starts with a flow roll so within a short amount of time, even white belts understand how to take their foot off the gas and explore their existing game in a safe and smooth manner. Even better are those parents with kids who also want to train. The space here is large enough that adult fundamentals and kids can train on the divided space of the mats, with the caveat the adults never get to actually "roll" but rather spend the fundamentals drilling and doing positional work. This is rather clever and I think the only reason more gyms don't do it is the space requirement to do so. Those who want to still roll can stay for the adult class afterward which is almost entirely rolling after a few advanced positions are explored (more like the traditional class we're all used to). The gym atmosphere is great. Music plays during the rolls which I absolutely love in any gym. People care more about your attitude and what you know than what gi color you wear or how you prefer to tie your belt. Nothing is off the table in terms of what to train or explore whether it's an old school fundamental or a new school twist fresh off the latest instructional or major event. The head instructor, Adam, clearly has a love for BJJ not just as a practitioner, but as an educator. Within the first DAYS of my arrival he had identified my game, helped me find improvements in a supportive and positive way, and even encouraged me going off-script for the given move of the day - identifying ways I can fit it into the things I like doing. After being at a gym that regularly criticize mistakes with no actionable feedback on how to improve or discouraging exploration of a move to find ways to use it differently, this was a breath of fresh air I didn't know I lacked until I got it. Adam has reignited my passion for learning and deep diving things and made me excited again to come to the gym and share things I've learned. And that's a mindset you'll find in all the people here. Again - the culture flows from the top. You'll encounter that attitude all over the gym and it quickly becomes apparent why that is. If you're looking for a new gym or just interested in exploring to see what else is around, you definitely owe it to yourself to drop in and give TFTC a shot."

"TFTC in Cary is hands down the best place to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the area, and much of that is due to the guidance and character of black belt Adam Velasquez. Adam is a people-first kind of person who genuinely prioritizes safety, growth, and a welcoming environment. He’s always attentive, moving around the room to ensure the technique of the day is understood and adapted to each person’s style and body type. His feedback is both constructive and encouraging, with a deep understanding that learning in martial arts isn’t a one-way street. Adam has a true growth mindset, open to new ideas and perspectives, which creates a positive space for all of us to improve and share. Adam’s humility is refreshing—he’s the first to admit that he’s still learning, and his passion for the sport is contagious. His style is wrestling-focused, with an emphasis on getting top position, control, and submission, which is a dream for anyone who resonates with that game. But he also hosts a line-up of other black belts and experienced practitioners, encouraging us to draw from their styles to find our own approach. Adam also has a background in striking and encourages us to explore other martial arts, understanding how much it enhances our overall game. The schedule at TFTC-Cary is robust, with morning, noon, and evening classes that fit almost any lifestyle. For families, the simultaneous kids’ and adult fundamentals classes are especially valuable, offering a chance for parents and kids to train at the same time. TFTC also offers kickboxing classes and even provides discounted rates for police officers, which is a fantastic nod to community support. The atmosphere Adam has cultivated here is one of respect, ambition, and support. Not enough can be said about the positive energy he brings to this gym. If you’re serious about growing in Jiu-Jitsu and martial arts in general, TFTC-Cary is the place to be. Drop in and experience it for yourself—you won’t regret it!"
