“I started my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu path with Profs Mike & Sheena Bidwell at Grounds (formerly known as Flo Life BJJ+) in December 2023. I'd wanted to train BJJ for several years, but didn't know where to begin. I felt a little nervous walking into a school and assumed everyone would be much more advanced than myself. A friend recommended I check out this school, stating he trainined with Mike and that he is a "world class instructor" who focuses on safety in his step-by-step curriculum. I called the school and spoke to Sheena. She he invited me to come in and try a class for free. It took a couple weeks for me to do so, but as soon as I came in I saw there several other students who were just beginning and I felt comfortable right away. That's when my path began. I immediately enrolled my 3 kids into classes where they received the skills and knowledge needed to become confident in life, not to mention they learned how to defend themselves in threatening situations and receieved a high-level of physical exercise. I'll be turning 40 in a few months and am grateful to have found a school that puts safety first and advances students only when they are ready. I will say you need to earn your promotions, which is what I was looking for. I've trained 3-4 days per week for the past 25 months and have also taken private lessons from both Mike and Sheena. They push me to become better and I am always comfortable with their assesment of my progression. I've grown in many ways during these past 2 years and attribute a large amount of my success to training at Grounds.
