I can't say enough good things about Coastal. Garth and Shannon are awesome instructors and awesome people. Atmosphere is very welcoming and there are a wide range of students. If you're in Savannah or Richmond Hill, definitely stop in and train with them.

Family friendly, challenging and engaging atmosphere. Excellence starts at the top and Garth Spendiff provides the highest level of knowledge and compassion for everyone that passes through the doors and are willing to challenge themselves by stepping on the mat. Each member of Coastal Combatives are held to this same standard, and approach each “roll” as an opportunity to not only get better but to help the members of our BJJ family improve. If you are looking to get in shape, learn self defense or simply curious about BJJ(Gracie Jiu Jitsu) come by and challenge yourself.

A focus on drilling and repetition, with coaching that encourages folks to avoid taking the path of least resistance. The energy is a bit more serious and professional than other gyms I've checked out. Place is in good repair and clean. The the cost of membership in part offset by an included membership to the YMCA and the potential which comes with that. That last part, cost, is an important one. You can pay $100 a month for other bjj gyms which are only open just for class, or pay $60-80 for coastal combatives / YMCA membership and have a full fledged gym, yoga, lockerroom, child watching and more.
